Amelia Rodriguez (b.1999) is a visual artist based on unceded territories in Vancouver, British Columbia. After completing a bachelor of Fine Art at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2023, she undertook Studio H residency in Sooke, British Columbia (2024) and THIRDSPACE residency in Toronto, Ontario (2025). Her solo exhibitions include Why Does Pray Sound Like Prey, and Worship Sound Like Warship? (Vancouver, 2026) and Is There A Party? Am I Invited? (Toronto, 2026). Her work has been published in art magazines internationally, Subo Art Magazine (Portugal), FERAL (Asheville, NC), and Capsule Community (New York, Toronto). Amelia\u2019s current practice spans textile, sculpture, and installation. Examining how tenderness can function as both refuge and a site of tension, she use soft materials and labour intensive processes she explore themes of childhood, vulnerability, comfort, and the way these feelings of safety are constructed, remembered, and disrupted. Amelia was awarded the Opus Art Supplies Bursary in 2023, and\u00a0continues to make poetic textiles out of her studio in Vancouver.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/section>

\nArtist Statement\n<\/div>\n<\/div>
\nMy bodies of work cross pathways of poetry, painting, installation, sculpture, and textile work. I focus intently on the connotations that material carries. Themes of comfort (and discomfort) that come with nostalgia thread through my practice. By combining these tender emotions I am able to create art that feels soft, while saying something harsher. The tough tongue of a mother. The feeling of being held after you cry. A chainmail blanket that is just as warm as it is protective. By creating something so soft yet so unsure, I explore the relationship that humans create within dependent care systems. In my practice I centre themes of vulnerability, care as an active gesture, and using feminized methods of art making as a statement.\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
